Final Fantasy XIV Evercold's best preorder perk arrives in November

Evercold launches February 23, 2027, with zephyr as its second new job. Preorders open November 4, and the EXP earring that comes with them is the real reason to order early.

Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold finally has a date. At Fan Festival 2026 in Tokyo, producer and director Naoki Yoshida announced that the expansion launches on Tuesday, February 23, 2027, and revealed zephyr as its second new job. Square Enix's press release also says preorders open on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, and the game has now passed 35 million registered accounts.

The headline is the February date, but the part I would circle on a calendar is November 4. One preorder bonus is delivered the moment you order, and for anyone with jobs still to level, it is worth more than early access.

Key dates, converted to Eastern time

Square Enix lists times in GMT. US clocks fall back on November 1, so both 9:00 a.m. GMT start times below land at 4:00 a.m. Eastern. The conversions are mine.

According to Nova Crystallis' keynote writeup, the date is a three-week delay, and Yoshida said he made the call himself so the team could handle the expansion's large system changes and get it to a quality level they are happy with. I would rather have a late expansion than a rushed battle system rework, so this one does not bother me.

Why November 4 matters more than February 19

Preorders come with three bonuses: early access, a Wind-Up Köttr minion, and an item called Halone's Earring. Square Enix says the earring's stats scale to your class or job and level, and it adds 30% more EXP from defeating enemies. The key line is in the fine print. The in-game items are "delivered immediately upon pre-order," so players can use the earring's EXP boost "through level 100 ahead of the release of Evercold."

That gives you nearly four months of boosted leveling before launch. If you have a dozen jobs parked in the 70s and 80s, that is real time saved. Square Enix says bonuses register automatically on the Mog Station, PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store and Nintendo eShop, while select retailers hand out a code you can redeem right away.

Early access, by comparison, is four days. It is nice, but most of us lose half of it to queues and work anyway.

Read the Collector's Box listing twice

The Collector's Box is a common trap with MMO expansions, and Square Enix is clear about it this time: the box "does not include a copy of Evercold, in-game items, or pre-order bonuses." Here is what you get in each version:

  • Collector's Box (physical): an art box with a Yoshitaka Amano Evercold illustration, a reaper Warrior of Light figure, an Ethos metal keychain, a Köttr mini plush and the Tapestry of the Fourth.
  • Digital Collector's Edition: the Valhallar Odin mount, the Entreat Crystal emote and the Crystal Skyltborg: Bastion weapon.
  • Collector's Bundle: the box plus a Digital Collector's Edition code for Windows or Mac, in limited quantities and only from the Square Enix Store.

PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam players have to buy the box on its own and preorder the Digital Collector's Edition separately on their platform. If you play on console and want both, budget for two purchases.

What zephyr is

Zephyr is a physical ranged DPS that fights with a crossbow and an avian familiar named Nephele. Nova Crystallis adds the details that matter for planning:

  • It starts at level 90, and you need Evercold to play it.
  • Its job quest starts in Gridania.
  • Like the other new job, the bastion tank, it only exists in Evolved Mode, the new version of the battle system. There is no Reborn Mode version.
  • It leans on evasion, with movement actions for positioning.

Yoshida promised a longer Letter from the Producer Live later to explain Reborn and Evolved Mode properly, so I am holding off on judging the battle changes until then.

The other changes worth knowing

The main story will let you pick the order of three destinations after an opening section, and a new Auto Content Balancing system scales difficulty and rewards so players who take different routes still line up. Nova Crystallis also reports a Gauntlet of Power boss rush for levels 51 to 110 that unlocks once you clear Stormblood, and Item Level Link for jobs at level 110.

On the raid side, the press release confirms a new Fierce difficulty between Normal and Savage, a Final Fantasy VII Remake crossover raid called Beyond the Lifestream with new Tetsuya Nomura art, and a new trailer for the Evangelion: Ghosts of Desire alliance raid. Nova Crystallis says Fierce will arrive one week after Savage so it does not spoil the world first race.

If you are new, the free trial now covers everything through patch 5.58, up to the end of Shadowbringers. And if this is your first Final Fantasy news in a while, the series is busy: Final Fantasy Resonance's reviews split on its story, and we picked which Final Fantasy to play first in Origins of Light.

Who should preorder on November 4

  • Preorder early if you have several jobs below 100. The EXP earring starts working right away.
  • Preorder any time before February if you only care about early access. Nothing suggests early access is tied to ordering on day one.
  • Wait if you are waiting to hear how Evolved Mode plays. The deep-dive broadcast is still to come.
  • Move fast on the Collector's Bundle only. It is limited, and it is the one version that is not sold everywhere.

Check the official Evercold site for edition listings when preorders open.
